The Director

 Mary Scott Taylor

Mrs. Taylor is the daughter of Irish Immigrants who traveled to the United States in 1957. She grew up listening to and performing traditional Irish music even before her classical training started. In addition to her professional performing in the classical and Irish genre, Taylor is a certified Suzuki Instructor and has extensive teaching experience with young string players. String ensembles under her direction have performed throughout the country, including festivals and Suzuki Institutes in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina. Taylor held the position of Director of the Suzuki Preparatory Program at Oklahoma City University from 1996 to 1998. She is also the Founder of Palmetto Suzuki Talent Education, which provides instruction for students beginning at age 3 and includes parent education in the Suzuki philosophy. Ms. Taylor and her husband Dr. Robert Taylor direct the Taylor Music Group in Charleston, South Carolina. As a performer, Taylor is currently a part time member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and has performed with orchestras in Italy, Austria, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Georgia and South Carolina. Ms. Taylor has recorded on the Centaur label as concertmaster of the Chorus Civitas Orchestra and can also be heard with the Hungry Monks on the recently released disc, Organic Tangerines. Taylor is an experienced chamber musician and has appeared in recital and concert in the classical and Irish musical repertoires. Mrs. Taylor has a Master of Music in Violin Performance from Sam Houston State University, and a Bachelor of Music degrees in Music Education and Violin Performance from Lamar University where she studied with Dr. Edward Shmider (a student of David Oistrach).
