Where did you do your musical training?
My money, time, and heart have always resided with Oklahoma State University. I studied first with Dr. Jerry McCoy for my undergrad, graduating in 2002 and entering the public school and church choir world before returning to pursue a Masters degree in choral conducting with Dr. Dirk Garner in 2008.
When did you first start performing with the TFC?
I have only had the pleasure of singing with TFC once in 2019 for the So Hallow’d a Time album and a few online projects during the pandemic. Looking forward to making music in Charleston again.
What is your all-time favorite choral work?
I had been a part of church and school choirs since before I can remember but really first fell in love with choral music in the 1990’s with the Robert Shaw recording of Rachmaninoff’s Vespers. It’s held a soft spot in my heart ever since.
Where do you live now? And where do you call “home”?
My wife, Kristin, and I, along with our two little girls, live in Fort Worth, TX where we both lead school choral programs. Originally from Oklahoma, I now feel that I’m “home” anywhere where my family and friends are.
What is your favorite hobby outside of music?
Outside of music I love to cook and talk about wine…usually at the same time. Though my wife would probably say I spend too much time fanboy-ing over the latest electric vehicles and Apple gadgets.
Who is your favorite singer?
I’ll never skip the track when Fritz Wunderlich or Renée Fleming make their way into a shuffle.
Who is your favorite actor?
No one person stands out for me. Though I’d be lying if I said I haven’t watched every episode of Ted Lasso at least 5 times.
Favorite movie or play?
Too many to even attempt to name.
What is your favorite meal?
I like food
Who is your favorite sports team?
Oklahoma State Cowboys. Go Pokes!
Do you have a favorite TFC or “singing with Rob” anecdote?
Looking forward to making more memories with TFC!
